CASE # ~
REVIEW AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ACCEPT BIDS FOR INTERIOR
FINISHING WORK AND TUCKPOINTING THE OLD TOWN HALL

Kim Moore-Sykes, Assistant City Administrator

Background: On June 27, 2000, the City Council authorized Staffto schedule and work
with individual contractors to complete the renovation of the Old Town Hall. Since then,
Staff has worked to interest contractors in this project. Several local repair services were
contacted and Merrill Dykema of AAA Handyman Service, Inc., was the only one to
respond.

Mr. Dykema has agreed to provide an estimate to the City for the interior finish work that
was listed as unfinished in the July 26, 2000 completion report compiled by KKE, (i.e.
installation of the wainscotting and chair rail; installation of interior and fi'ont doors;
ceramic tiling and installation of bathroom sink and commode; and painting). If Council
authorizes Staff to accept Mr. Dykema's estimate for work to be done, Staff will be
coordinating this work with Mr. Dykema according to the original building plans as
found in the file.

Grant Reimer has contacted a tuckpointing contractor to determine if they are interested
in doing the tuckpointing for Old Town Hall. If this is a job that they can schedule, they
will also submit an estimate for the job. This estimate will be presented to the Council at
the October 10tt, Council meeting if it is received in time.

Staff continues to search for a contractor to finish the HVAC work. Mr. Dykema advised
Staff that he is unable to do this project as it requires the bending of aluminum for the
ducting and he doesn't have the appropriate equipment. Any information that is received
prior to the Council meeting regarding an HVAC contractor will also be presented to
Council on October 10th.

Council Action:
Based on discussion and the viability of the proposed estimates for each project.

Reviewed by:
City Administrator

C: 10/10/2000

Copies also Distributed to:
Public Works Director
Public Works Supervisor

City shared/tuckpointing and finishing bid old town hall.cas

-69-
