The responsibilities of the position included assisting the
Parks/Utilities Supervisor in directing the seasonal employees along with the normal duties of a
Public Works Maintenance Worker. The desired outcome of establishing the position was to
maximize the efficiency of labor hours spent in the field. In addition, the temporary position
would extend an opportunity to an existing Public Works Maintenance Worker to further develop
his/her skills through increased problem solving, communication, training, and project direction.
Staff has been very pleased with the accomplishments of the temporary Lead Person position and
would like to recommend that Council consider extending the temporary position until 2001.

Personnel Committee/October 10, 2000

-35-
