Motion carried, Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners, Droegemueller, Rolfe, Asfahl,
Johns, and LaMere. Voting No: None.

COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1:

Approve Central Park Play Equipment Design

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Boos stated that the purpose of the case was to approve the design of
Central Park's $51,000 play structure. It was the earlier consensus of the Park Commission that
the volunteer installation should be deferred until Spring 2000, He reviewed the play structure
noting that the structure meets the most recent ADA requirements,

Conunissioner Johns noted that the play structure did not include swings and questioned if the
existing swings could be salvaged.

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Boos replied that he was not sure that the existing swings meet the
current safety guidelines.

Chairperson Cook stated that he would research the information further.

Conunissioner LaMere inquired if swings are no longer being considered for playgrounds.

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Boos replied no, but the height of the swings that are offered has been
reduced to eight feet rather than ten feet.

Chairperson Cook explained the reasoning for the eight-foot swings and explained that the
requirements have been changed to require swings to have their own separate surface area.

Commissioner Johns questioned if there would be space to add swings in the future,

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Boos replied yes.

Commissioner Rolfe inquired if the $51,000 only covers the playground equipment.

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Boos replied the $51,000 will cover all costs including shipping tax
and supervision.

Commissioner Johns questioned if the $51,000 will include landscaping.

ParkslUtilities Supervisor Boos explained that there would be some additional funds available
for landscaping. .

Commissioner DroegemueIler inquired if the sale of any used play equipment would be used for
the project.

Park and Recreation CommissionlDecember 9, 1999
Page 2 of6
