CASE #4

SCHEDULE SPECIAL COMMISSION MEETING TO REVIEW AND RECOMMEND
PROPOSALS FOR CENTRAL PARK'S SURPLUS PLAY EQUIPMENT
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Background:

The play structure for Central Park has been ordered and is expected to be received in April of
this year. This provides for a volunteer installation in late April or May. An advertisement was
placed in the Anoka County Union for three issues and is running on cable TV. The deadline for
receiving bids or proposals for the used play equipment is April 3, 2000. One proposal has
already been received. In addition, several people have filled out response cards indicating a
desire to volunteer with the installation of the project.

Observations:

In order to maximize the spring weekend installation choices before the dates usually already
committed (opening fishing, Mother's Day, Memorial Day), staff is recommending proceeding
as soon as possible with bid or proposal approval. This would require Park and Recreation
Commission review of the proposals between April 3 and April 6, inclusive, in order to provide a
recommendation to City Council on April 11, 2000. The review of the proposals could also be
delegated to a Committee of the Commission (The process should probably take less than ½
hour.). Attached for your information is the bid form for the used equipment and the notice for
bids.

Commission Action:

Motion to choose a date and time to review the used play equipment bids and identify the
Commissioners to be present.

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

Parks/Utilities Supervisor
PR:03/09/00

Director of Public Works
Finance Officer
