ORDINANCE #00-XX <br /> <br /> CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />AN AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 9 WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE ZONING AND <br />SUBDIVISION OF LAND CHAPTER OF THE CITY CODE OF RAMSEY, <br />MINNESOTA. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />IMPROVEMENTS" <br />MINNESOTA. <br /> <br />AMENDING SECTION 9.50.50 "CONSTRUCTION OF <br />OF CHAPTER 9 OF THE CITY CODE OF RAMSEY, <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey ordains: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. PURPOSE <br /> <br />The intent of this ordinance is to provide direction for the placement of sidewalks in new urban <br />residential developments. Sidewalks should be viewed ,as a necessary adjunct to residential <br />development to meet the following objectives: <br /> / <br /> <br />a) To promote public safety and welfare by separating pedestrian traffic from roadways in <br /> proximity to schools, churches, shopping facilities, and within residential developments. <br /> <br />b) To encourage pedestrian traffic as an alternative to short velficular trips, thereby decreasing <br /> traffic, conserving energy, and promoting safety for residents and children; <br /> <br />c) To provide for linkage to the Park & Trail city trail system and encourage recreational use of <br /> the trails; <br /> <br />d) To improve the pedestrian experience while promoting the use of landscaping such as <br /> boulevard trees and plantings, thereby improving the visual aspects of our neighborhoods and <br /> property values. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. AMENDMENT <br /> <br />Section 9.50.50 (Construction of Improvements), Subd. 2(a)(I) (Stage I Improvements) shall be <br />amended to add the following: <br /> <br />(o) Sidewalks <br /> <br />Section 9.50.50 (Construction of Improvements), Subd. 3(b) (Stage I Improvements) shalI be <br />amended to add the following: <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />Sidewalks. All subdivisions within the urban service area shall have not less than a <br />five-foot (5') wide concrete sidewalk on at least one side of each through street or <br />anticipated through street to provide for safe pedestrian traffic. Cul-de-sacs with no <br />probability as a through street may be exempt.
