P.W. CASE #:

CONSIDER PLACEMENT OF 2000 PRIORITY STREET LIGHTS
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Since 1992, the City of Ramsey has been operating a Street Lighting System. As of the
beginning of 2000 the City Street Lighting System includes approximately 130 lights are
designated on the Priority Street Lighting System. The Priority Street Lighting System is
comprised of streets lights located along intersections of city streets with state, county,
and higher speed city MSA roadways. The purpose of this type of lighting is more for
traffic safety and identifying the location of the intersection on a dark highway then for
security purposes associated with subdivision street lighting. Not all intersections on
these routes currently have priority lights installed. However, all intersections initially
identified by the City Police Department as being high priorities have been provided with
streetlights. At this point the only remaining intersections along major roadways that
have yet to receive priority lighting are minor residential street intersections. At the
present time such intersections remain to receive street lighting. At the meeting a map
showing our current priority street lights will be presented. We will present at the
meeting a listing of intersections proposed for Priority Street Lights in the year 2000.

Committee Action:

Recommend to City Council Priority Street Light location for installation included in the
year 2000 budget.

Review by:
Public Works Director
Police Chief

P.W. 07/18/00
