CC Work Session Date: 04/19/2011 By: Brian Olson Engineering/Public Works Information Title: Update on Long Term Road Maintenance Program Background: Item #: 2. 3. During the strategic planning session in January, City Council identified an initiative to solve the long term road maintenance issue as one of the critical tasks to perform in 2011. The purpose of the case tonight is to provide an overview of the progress made to date, the projected schedule for implementation of the 30 question citizen survey and ask for direction for the survey. At the September 21, 2010 Council work session discussions focused on a franchise fee and public participation campaign to educate the residents of the imminent need for roadway improvements, and solicit their feedback on the potential scenarios that exist for a long term sustainable funding source. Information was presented in work session for completing a public participation program on January 18, 2011, and on January 25, 2011 the City Council provided a "scope of service" by approving the attached Himle Horner proposal. Specifically, one of the steps that was important to discuss was the success and/or failure of other communities within our region. Himle Horner will be present at this meeting to discuss the results of their research and to solicit comments from the City Council for preparing the 30 question questionaire.
