DRAFT <br /> <br />City wilt own the land after the second payment is made in June of 1999 so it may be appropriate to <br />begin thinking ora more suitable name than "Number 5." Mr. Boos noted that the Commission's <br />naming policy indicates the parks shall be named after a significant natural resource, geographic <br />feature, or the subdivision that contains it. Mr. Boos pointed out that three other subdivisions in this <br />area already contain the word "Oak" and that the park is located in the Oak Recreation District. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos stated there have also been discussions regarding the renaming of County Ditch Nos. 66 <br />and 3 in that it is essentially a creek and more deserving ora description versus a number. He stated <br />that both the creek and park could be named the same which would allow residents to better identify <br />its location. <br /> <br />The suggestion was raised to conduct a City-wide park/creek naming contest. <br /> <br />Commissioner Ostrum suggested the names "Oak Creek" and "Oak Creek Park" which identifies its <br />location and features. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos confirmed there is a significant stand of Red Oak trees in the park. <br /> <br />The suggestion was raised again to accept public input. It was also suggested that a series of names <br />be determined and then residents asked to vote on their favorite name. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos advised of the process used in the past to name a park and input gained from elementary <br />students. He stated the list of park names could be displayed at the Environmental Expo and an <br />opportunity provided at that time to vote. <br /> <br />Commissioner Ostrum commented that not providing a list of predetermined names would allow for <br />more creativity by the residents. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Ostrum and seconded by Commissioner Johns to direct staff.to advertise <br />this contest in the March Ramsey Resident newsletter and invite residents to submit names with a <br />public vote at the Environmental Expo. <br /> <br />Motion carded. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Ostrum, Johns, Asfahl, Droegemueller, <br />LaMere, and Rolfe. Voting No: None. Absent: None. <br /> <br />COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT <br /> <br />Chairperson Cook announced that the City has matching funds for neighborhood park development <br />by residents and organizations.
