Commissioner Olds stated his only concern with the plan to the left is that the parking access to
the baseball field is limited as compared, to the plan on the fight where the fields are separate.
However, he is in favor with the flexibility of having the fields combined.

Commissioner Lehman expressed concern that although the plan on the left has great open space,
there will be trouble if there are two different teams or organizations that want to play different
sports. He stated there are also safety issues with the plan on the left and he favors the plan on
the fight.

Chairperson Johns concurred with Commissioner Lehman for the reasons of safety and access.
She stated there are a lot of houses out there and they should keep this band as natural as
possible. She favors keeping the ball field so the kids can play on the other fields.

Commissioner Shryock expressed concern with any conflict of children from the school utilizing
the facility and anyone coming to use the club.

Chairperson Johns noted the school is K-12 and there will likely be a lot of kids wanting to do
different activities.

Commissioner Shryock suggested this park should not be discussed in too much detail until the
needs and assistance of the school are known.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood suggested a consensus agreement be made contingent upon
discussions with the school. He will be contacting the school. It would be helpful to know
which one of these plans makes the most sense given what they know today.

Commissioner Olds indicated he h/rd preferred the left plan, however, if a track is necessary he
would agree with the right plan with a track included.

Ms. Bartels explained at this stage of the design the planning is more focused with what the
Commission would like to see in the park. A running track will be added and the access will be
considered. There will also need to be discussions with the school.

Commissioner Olds stated he likes the idea of the area that is multi-purpose, which the left
concept plan addresses; however, there are a number of issues with that plan. There are issues
with the access and the parking, which, only has one in and one out. The right drawing could add
a running track and addresses the conflict of people using the area for different purposes. They
do, however, need to know what the desires and requirements are of the school.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood commented there is some traffic safety benefit to having a
single entrance for the parking, and the parkway will be fairly heavily traveled.

Park and Recreation Commission/August 19, 2003
Page 3 of 10
