If the City <br />were to run the park they may want to charge for the use. <br /> <br />Ms. Bartels advised the Commission might want to ask the developer to look for people that may <br />want to rent the space and develop the types of uses in the concept plan. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns commented there are a couple of companies that could be approached for <br />expansion to the north. <br /> <br />Commissioner Lehman commented he likes the uniqueness of something different in the Skate <br />Park; however, they do not want to put in something so unique that it does not get utilized. They <br />need to accorm~aodate for the kids and what they will use. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns commented teenage boys want to do what they are comfortable with and <br />know how to do. She indicated she would be drawn to utilizing a vendor because they know <br />what is tried and true and what works. <br /> <br />Ms. Barrels indicated one place had a BMX park, which was basically a big pit of dirt that was <br />changed fbrjumps and tricks for the bikes. <br /> <br />Mr. Pfeiffer commented customers for a retail store or skating store could be drawn to the skate <br />ramp. <br /> <br />Ms. Barrels noted the area around the Skate Park is planned for stores, arcades and fast.food. <br /> <br />Commissioner Olds stated rather than a dedicated skate board or roller blade functioning facility <br />there should be some flexibility so. the park can be used for multiple uses. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns inquired if the Commission likes the water theme in the eastern area or if they <br />would rather have something such as miniature golf. <br /> <br />Commissioner Olds asked if the features that would be incorporated in the water area would be <br />duplicated anywhere else. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shryock commented the fitness center would have a pool and there would be a <br />water play feature in Civic Square. <br /> <br />Ms. Bartels explained the interactive fountain in the Civic Square is a zero depth fountain with <br />jets at grade. When the jets are turned off it would not be known that it is there. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shryock stated she likes the idea of having the water accessible. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns inquired if the spray deck at the Skate Park would be for all ages; her first <br />thought was that it would be for toddlers. <br /> <br />Ms. Bartels explained the spray decks are sometimes overwhelming for little kids. <br /> <br /> Park and Recreation Commission/August 19, 2003 <br /> Page 5 of 10 <br /> <br /> <br />
