The position was advertised and twenty-
seven applications were received. Applications were reviewed, rated and ranked by the
Administrative Services Manager, the Community Development Director, the Zoning
Administrator and the Community Development Assistant. On the basis of those
reviews, six candidates were invited to interview on February 11. The interview panel
consisted of the same people who reviewed the applications.

Based on interview results, staff is recommending that Tara Olson be hired for the
Community Development Secretary position, contingent upon successful completion of
background investigations of driving record and criminal history, reference checks, and a
physical examination. Ms. Olson's annual salary would be the starting step for her
position in the compensation plan, $24,066.

Committee Action:

Recommend that the City Council authorize hiring Tara Olson as the Community
Development Secretary, contingent upon successful completion of background
investigations of driving record and criminal history, reference checks, and a physical
examination, at an annual salary of $24,066.

Reviewed by:
City Administrator
Administrative Services Manager

PC: 2/23/99
