RAMSEY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />MONTHLY REPORT <br /> JANUARY 1999 <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS <br /> <br />On 1-8-99 a DUI arrest was made were a 1988 Mazda was forfeited. <br /> <br />The department responded to 609 Calls For Service compared to 679 in January of 1998. <br /> <br />DARE/COMMUNITY POLICING <br /> <br />One Juvenile Accountability Conference was held on 1-18-99. Present at the conference was the juvenile, juvenile's <br />parents, two store employees and Cpl. Dwyer. The juvenile admitted to the shoplifting. Along with an apology it <br />was agreed that the juvenile was not allowed in the store without one of the parents, would show an improvement <br />and increased effort in school, and would work cleaning the store in 2 hour increments for a total of 8 hours under <br />the supervision of the store manger. <br />Volunteer Public Safety Aide Activity <br />In January, a total of 196 hrs were donated by members in the following areas: <br /> <br />MEETINGS/TRAINING <br /> <br />On 1-7-99 the PSA's participated in a group training session on Geographic Orientation and Map Reading. On 1- <br />19-99 PSA Swadner came in and talked to the group about Neighborhood Watch programs, as well as National <br />Night Out. A 1999 Unit goal is to have each member serve as a "Block Captain" and assist Swadner in setting up <br />"Neighborhood Watch" programs in their own residential areas. Other areas covered were the issuance of uniforms <br />and various organizational procedures. A total of 114 hrs was donated by PSA members for training, <br /> <br />GENERAL DUTY: <br /> <br />Eight members participated in a total of 35.5 hrs of General PSA Duty. During General Duty assi,,munents, PSA go <br />out in the PSA vehicle conducting residential and business security checks, provide additional extra patrol within <br />their authority in requested areas, patrol city parks, conduct general motorist and citizen assists, and backing police <br />officers as needed on non-priority calls. <br /> <br />RIDE-ALONGS: <br /> <br />Three members participated in a total of 16 hrs of ride-along with police officers. This is primarily a learning <br />experience for them and is meant to increase their skills and knowledge of what the police department does. Within <br />their authority, they assist police officers as needed. <br /> <br />YOUTH ACTIVITIES: <br /> <br />Four members participated in a total of 15.5 hfs at the Ramsey Community SchooI "Teen Night" program. This <br />program is sponsored by Ramsey Community Education and Adventures Plus and is aimed at 5~ grade and junior <br />high students. Sessions are held every Friday night. PSA's have volunteered time to work with the staff and to <br />interact with the kids. Their primary duty is to play sports and games with the kids and build a stronger bond <br />between the police and community youth. They also assist staffmembers with activities and serve as the program <br />security. <br /> <br />PSA Corporal Chandra Kreyer has been working closely with Chief Gustafson on the idea of setting up a <br />Scholarship/Youth Mentoring Program in conjunction with the Ramsey Lions Club. A total of 15 hfs of her time has <br />been dedicated to this thus far. More information will follow in the coming months. <br /> <br /> <br />
