I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
,I

Case #

REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH
ARCHITECTUAL FIRM FOR DESIGN OF FIRE STATION #2
By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief

Background:

Early in 1998, staff was authorized to interview architectural finns for the design of fire
station #2. Firms to be selected for the interview process were chosen after consulting
neighboring cities and other fire depts, who had gone through similar projects. The four
firms interviewed were Mjorud and Associates, SEH, SMMA and Trossen Wright. The
interview team consisted of Fire Chief Dean Kepler, Assistant Fire Chief Tom Hoxter
and City Engineer Steve Jankowski. Each finn was given 30 minutes to complete their
presentation. When completed, a numerical rating was given to each finn.

The consensus of the interview team was that SEH would be the best choice to design the
fire station project. The decision was also unanimous among the three interviewers.

Recommendation:

Based on the results of the interviews and the opinions of the interviewers, the interview
panel is recommending that SEH be chosen to contract for design of fire station #2. The
fee for the contract will be not to exceed $60,000.

Financing:

Fees will be paid from the intra-fund loan from the Landfill Trust Fund along with the

Motion to recommend Council accept/reject the interview panels recommendation to
enter into a contract agreement with SEH for architectural services for the construction of
fire station #2. .~,~~ ~ !
Reviewed by: .

City Administrator [ ///~/'~'
Fire Chief \ v / ,, //
