I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />RECEIVE HIRING RECOMMENDATION FOR PUBLIC WORKS <br />MAINTENANCE POSITIONS (2 POSITIONS) <br /> Joyce Pruitt Hotfinger, Administrative Services Manager <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The adopted 1999 operating budget contained funding for one additional Public Works <br />Maintenance Worker. A hiring process for this position was conducted in late 1998; <br />however, due to extraneous factors the position was unable to be filled. With the vacancy <br />of a Public Works Maintenance Worker and the need to fill the additional positicn, the <br />City .advertised for two Public Works Maintenance Workers in March 1999. The position <br />was advertised and 33 applications were received. Applications were reviewed and rated <br />by Public Works Director/Fire Chief Dean Kapler, Streets Supervisor Mark Boos, <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Grant Riemer, and Administrative Services Manager Hottinger. <br />G n the basis of tt'~ose reviews, eight candidates were invited to in:erview on April 13, <br />1999. The interview panel consisted of the same people who rev!ewed the applications. <br /> <br />Based on interview results, staffis recommending that Brian Swanson and Chza'les <br />Cornelius be hired for the Public Works Maintenance positions, contingent upon <br />s~,ccessful completion of background investigations of driving record and criminal <br />history, reference checks, and a physical examination. Both of the positions annual <br />salary would be the starting step for the position in the comper, zation plan of$11.57/hour, <br />or $24,066 annually. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Recommend that the City Council authorize hiring Brian Swanson anal Charles Cornelius <br />as Public Works Maintenance Workers, contingent upon successful completion of <br />background investigations of driving record and criminal history, reference checks, and a <br />physical examination at an hourly salary of $11.57 hour, or $24,066 annually. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to approve authorization to hire authorize Brian Swanson and Charles Cornelius <br />as Public Works Maintenance Workers, contingent upon successful completion of <br />background investigations of driving record and criminal history, reference checks, and a <br />physical examination at an hourly salary of$11.57 hour, or $24,066 annually. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br />City Administrator Norman' <br />Public Works Director/Fire Chief Kapler <br /> <br />CC: 04/27/99 <br /> <br /> <br />
