I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />RAMSEY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />MONTHLY REPORT <br /> MARCH 1999 <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS <br /> <br />On 3-29-99 Officer Paplham had responded to an intoxicated person to be taken to Detox. At the scene the suspect <br />pointed a replica gun at Officer Paplham. An Anoka County Deputy assisting fired one shot, wounding the suspect. <br />Suspect was later charged with Terroristic Threats and booked at the Anoka County Jail after being released from <br />the hospital. <br /> <br />On 3-11-99 a 1996 Cadillac Deville was taken in a DUI forfeiture. <br /> <br />The department responded to 685 Calls For Service compared to 694 in March of 1998. <br /> <br />DARE/COMMUNITY POLICING <br /> <br />PUBLIC SAFETY AIDE UNIT ACTIVITY <br /> <br />In MARCH 1999, a total of 151.5 ' hours were donated by members in the following areas: <br /> <br />MEETINGS / TRAINING: <br /> <br />There were (3) regular meetings this month. We had the pleasure to have Hillary Freeman of the Upper Midwest <br />Community Policing Institute come in an give us (2) training sessions on Community Policing. The fa'st session <br />was an introduction into Community Policing in Minnesota and Community Partnerships The second session was <br />on Community Policing Problem Solving and setting up Neighborhood Watch programs. On 03-30-99, Corporal <br />Tim Dwyer conducted a 2.5 hr block of instruction on the new PSA Departmental Policies and Procedures. A <br />total of 36.5 hours were donated by Public Safety Aide Members for training in February. <br /> <br />GENERAL DUTY: <br /> <br />Five members participated in a total of 49.5 hours of General Public Safety Aide Duty. During the course of their <br />duties, the Public Safety Aides conducted business checks, found (1) open door, assisted officers with I medical <br />emergency, conducted 1 extra pattol detail, patrolled area parks, and delivered council packets <br /> <br />RIDE-ALONGS: <br /> <br />Two members participated in a total of 18 hours of ride-along with licensed officers. This is primarily a learning <br />experience for them and is meant to increase their skills and knowledge of what the police department does. Within <br />their authority, they assist full-time officers as needed. <br /> <br />YOUTH ACTIVITIES: <br /> <br />Four Public Safety Aides participated in a total of 11 hours at the Ramsey Community School "Teen Night" <br />program. PSA Tim Bums and Chandra Kreyer continue to dedicate their free time to work with the kids during <br />.these events. <br /> <br /> <br />
