I I I I I I I I I I I ! I I I I CASE # AWARD BIDS FOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #98q6 BITUMINOUS PAVING OF BISON STREET By: City Engineer Steven J. Jankowski Background: On Friday, May 7, 1999, bids were received from four contractors for the above-referenced project that was authorized by the City Council on October 13, 1998. The following is a summary of the project construction bids: W.B. Miller, Inc. $36,587.50 Hardrives, Inc. $39,880.50 North Valley, Inc. $40,665.00 Bauerly Companies $52,140.70 The feasibility study had estimated the construction cost at $28,800. The low bidder is W.B. Miller, Inc. at a cost of $36,587.50. Included in this bid is $8,250 for the transport of 1500 cubic yards of excess material from the site to be placed at a location about 1000 feet north of the project. This spoil site was the previous location of Bison Street before it was re-located westward to the center of the right-of-way when that portion of the street was paved in 1996. The property owner, Medard Kaisershot, feels the former road property was left too low and has requested the City rectify the situation. Extra material is available from this project, however, this cost was not included in the original project feasibility study. Recommendation: The low bidder, W.B. Miller, Inc., has successfully completed numerous paving projects within the City. It is staff's recommendation that the contract be awarded to W.B. Miller, Inc. in the amount of $36,587.50, and that Schedule B in the amount of $8,250.00 be paid by the City's PIR Fund, separate from Improvement Project #98-16. Council Action: ~}~ ~ Motion to award the contract for the bituminous paving of Bison Street to W.B. Miller, Inc. in the amount of $36,587.50, with Schedule B being paid from the PIR Fund.
