Discussion took place regarding locations of large potholes. Public Works Director Olson <br />agreed to look at them. <br /> <br />City Engineer Himmer recommended his intent be added to Consent Agenda with <br />the feasibility study and to call a public hearing. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Elvig, seconded by Commissioner Backous, to recommend that the <br />City Council direct staff to prepare feasibility study for the 2011 Street Maintenance Program <br />and schedule a public open house. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson McGlone, Commissioners Elvig and Backous. <br />Voting No: None. Absent: None. <br /> <br />th <br />Case #5.3 Consider Change Order for City Improvement Project #10-32; 176 Avenue <br />Culvert <br /> <br />City Engineer Himmer reviewed the staff report. <br /> <br />Chairperson McGlone asked what material was used for the culvert. <br /> <br />City Engineer Himmer responded it was corrugated metal, 42 inch. The road is 28 feet wide. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson noted it was a hole the Staff was replacing annually. <br /> <br />Chairperson McGlone commented the assumptions made by Staff were not accurate enough, and <br />this happens repeatedly. He asked if bidding should be done in another manner or more borings <br />should be conducted to assure accuracy. <br /> <br />oad. <br /> <br />Commissioner Elvig asked if the boring could be angled for a better reading. <br /> <br />know the depth at that spot. He noted that if the money is going to be spent to do borings that <br />may not be accurate, it could just as easily be spent to do the repair. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Olson explained the borings that were done were in 5 to 6 inches of <br />muck, which ate for use in bidding. <br /> <br />Discussion took place on the bidding process and how to ensure the accurate bidding. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Elvig, seconded by Commissioner Backous, to recommend that the <br />City Council approve the change order for Improvement Project #10-24; 176th Avenue culvert <br />replacement, in the amount of $20,395.56. <br /> <br />Public Works Committee / February 15, 2011 <br />Page 3 of 7 <br /> <br />
