St. Croix Recreation was <br />also the low bidder on the Emerald Pond and Rivers Bend park shelters an.ri both projects <br />were completed on time and without complications. Mr. Boos contimted that the <br />Committee had asked staff to provide examples of where the $20,000 needed might come <br />fi:om. He noted a list he received fi:om Ramsey Police Officer 'Jim Singewald fi:om <br />people/businesses who contributed toward the Becky Weiss Bike Road-et with the <br />thought that maybe since there is not a road-et th/s year, they may be willing to <br />participate in a different community event that benefits children. Mr. Boos added that the <br />playground at Central Park does not meet the consumer guidelines for safety and the City <br />is obligated to replace it. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen commented that more equipment means more maintenance. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen to recommend <br />Council approve the vendor/fundraiser project for the community-built play structure for <br />Central Park but that after donations are received and the equipment is designed, all will <br />be presented to City Council for final adoption. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Hendriksen, Anderson <br />and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #2: Authorize Tennis Court Construction for Central Park <br /> <br />ParksKJ'tilities Supervisor Boos stated that $63,000 was designated within the 1998 <br />Capital Improvements Program for tennis court construction for Central Park. Thirty <br />companies were mailed a request to bid, plus an ad was placed in the Anoka Union. Six <br />complete bids were received, with W.B. Miller being the Iow bidder. W.B. Miller was <br />then asked to provide a quotation for future parking. Their quote was $9,800, which Ief~ <br />an adequate amount for restoration and landscape work of $6,394. City staff and the Park <br />and Recreation Commission agreed that it is most efficient to construct the parking area <br />as part of the tennis court project. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councitmember Anderson to recommend <br />Council award the tennis court construction contract to W.B. Miller for $46,806.50, as <br />well as the construction of the parking lot and driveway for $9,800. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Anderson, Hendriksen <br />and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #3: Purchase of Accessory Equipment for Rifles <br /> <br />Police Chief Gustafson reminded the Committee that last year Council authorized the <br />receipt of six surplus rifles from the U.S. Department of Defense. The Department has <br />since trained three officers on the use of these rifles and we are intending to equip these <br />to make them suitable for the Police Department.
