I
I

I
I
i
I

CASE

REPORT FROM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
· By: Community Development Assistant Sean Walther

Background:

City staff received Economic Development Authority Chairperson Dave Kent's resignation on
Tuesday, August 10, 1999. A copy of the letter is attached.

The Economic Development Authority regular meeting on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 did not
have a quorum. The members in attendance discussed each of the cases on the agenda. Below is
a summary of the discussion or consensus of the members present.

Case # 1:

Redevelopment Study/Task Force

City staff provided a summary of the Planning Commission's work thus far with Hoisington
Koegler Group, Inc. and the next step in the process which is to select a task force for phase two
of the study. The EDA suggested staff contact Jim Deal and a representative of Connexus
Energy to serve on the task force. Ken Wagner agreed to represent the EDA on the task force, as
the members present agreed that he was most familiar with land owners and issues in the study
area, and with the history of the City's previous efforts to improve that area.

Case #2:

1999 Business Subsidies Law

Community Development Director Cindy Sherman stated that this case was an information item.
Staff will prepare draft criteria for the EDA to review and discuss at a future meeting.

Case #3: Meeting Day and Time.

Due to the lack of a quorum at the last several meetings of the EDA staff placed this item on the
agenda for discussion. Members present agreed that the meetings should be held in the evening
if it will better accommodate members' schedules, especially the City Council liaisons. Staff
was directed to contact the EDA members to determine the best meeting day and time.

Case #4:

1999 Business Appreciation Day

Staff updated the EDA on the event planning.

Observations:

Mr. Kent's resignation creates a vacancy on the EDA. The City Council may wish to begin the
process of soliciting new applicants for the position.

Staff encourages City Council liaisons to the EDA to contact the Community Development
Department with their preference for a new regular meeting day and time.
