CASE <br /> <br />ADOPT ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6.04 OF THE RAMSEY CITY CODE <br />ENTITLED "SNOWMOBILES" <br /> By: David Gustafson, Police Chief and William Goodrich, City Attorney <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Staff presented Council with a proposed ordinance amending Section 6.04 of the Ramsey City <br />Code entitled "Snowmobiles". Chief Gustafson explained that violation of any section of <br />Ramsey's snowmobile ordinance is currently a misdemeanor punishable by 90 days in jail and/or <br />a $700 fine. By amending the Code to provide for petty misdemeanor minor offenses such as a <br />stop sign, speed, hours of operation and expired registration, prosecution time and costs can be <br />maintained at reasonable levels, for the defendant need not make a personal court appearance for <br />such offenses. This amendment will allow payment of the fine by mail in the same manner <br />prescribed for motor vehicle violations upon the public roadways. The maximum fine for a petty <br />misdemeanor is $200, with no jail time. The more serious violations would remain <br />misdemeanors punishable by the $700 fine and/or 90 days in jail. <br /> <br />On Tuesday, October 26, 1999, Council introduced the proposed ordinance amending Section <br />6.04 of the City Code.
