Ramsey Redevelopment Planning
Rarnsey, Minnesota

Workshop Two Summary
· 29 July 1999

Workshop Overview, Introduction and Purpose

Workshop Two was conducted on 29 July 1999 at 6:00 p.m. at Ramsey City Hall with the Ramsey
Planning Commission. The purpose of the workshop was to:

· Evaluate potential areas for redevelopment

· Choose a redevelopment area to carry forward to Phase II of the project

· Discuss task rome composition, role and purpose and assign Planning Commission members
to task force

The consultant briefly reviewed the summary of workshop one in which the planning commission
established the key goals to redevelopment and ranked them as to their importance. The two most
important goals that emerged from workshop one include completing a successful first redevelopment
project and enhancing the community's image.

The consultant reviewed the two redevelopment articles included in th~ packet and referred to other
media releases which have recently highlighted successful redevelopment projects. In reviewing the
articles it was pointed out that recent articles focusing on redevelopment all have common elements or
themes to them including:

· Revitalizing Communities

· Increasing property values

· Stimulating tax revenues and tax capacity

· Preserve the environment

· Utilize existing infrastructure

· Create living wage jobs

Redevelopment projects that include these elements as objectives or end results are much more likely to
receive federal, regional and local funding assistance. These objectives are also consistent with the City's
draft comprehensive plan.
