Park and Recreation Commission <br />Meeting Date: 05/12/2011 <br />By: Mark Riverblood, Engineering /Public <br />Works <br />Notification: <br />5. 2. <br />Title: <br />Discuss Eliminating the Name `Rhinestone Commons', with both adjoining Park Spaces to be entitled The Draw <br />Background: <br />As the Commission is aware, considerable discussion occurred leading up to the name of the park area <br />encompassing the amphitheater within the COR. (A part of this may have been due to the tendency to add the word <br />"park" after the name "Commons ". A similar tendency exists for Rhinestone Commons, the location of the <br />ballfield, immediately adjacent to what is now known as The Draw.) <br />Mid - summer 2010, City Council approved a Resolution naming the park space on either side of the Rhinestone <br />bridge The Draw. The purpose of this case is to recommend a similar renaming Resolution for the reasons <br />discussed below, and in the attached draft Resolution. <br />Observations: <br />During the planning process leading up to obtaining bids for the parking lot in 'Rhinestone Commons' that will serve <br />all the adjoining park spaces and uses, future park and way - finding signs were discussed. It became apparent that <br />having differing names for adjacent parks is somewhat confusing and not useful. <br />In that there is no 'investment' in the name 'Rhinestone Commons' to date, the consensus of staff is to simply rename <br />the park "The Draw."
