CASE #7

DISCUSS NAME FOR "COMMUNITY PARK #5"
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Background:

For many years, the City has been referring to the proposed 83-acre park site north of 160th Lane
and West of Trunk Highway #47 as "Community Park #5". This was due to the fact that the
Commission's plan had shown a desire for five parks distributed throughout the City of Ramsey.
These are Central, Lake Itasca, Rivers Bend, Alpine, and "Number 5".

Observations:

The City will own the land after the second payment is made in June of 1999. Due to this fact,
now may be a good time to begin thinking of a more suitable name than "Number 5". As you
recall, the Commission's naming policy was something like "Parks shall be named after a
significant natural resource, geographic feature, or the subdivision that contains it". In a related
matter, there have been discussions regarding renaming County Ditch Nos. 66 and 3, in that it is
actually a creek and it too was more deserving of a description versus a number.

It is recommended that consideration be given to a name that could apply to both the park and
creek. There is no urgency to identifying a name for either the park or creek.

.~ommission Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

Parks/Utilities Supervisor
Director of Public Works

Community Development Director

PR:01/14/99
