PW CASE # <br /> <br />EMERALD POND PARK NEIGHBORHOOD <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAGE PLAN <br /> By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Within the last year, the City has received requests for stop signing to control speeding <br />traffic at five intersections within a neighborhood. To date, only one intersection, 142nd <br />Lane and Tungsten, has been controlled with stop signs. <br /> <br />At the May Public Works Committee meeting, staff was asked to prepare a <br />comprehensive signage plan covering the entire neighborhood. Staff will be presenting a <br />number of exhibits at the meeting, which will include: 1) identification of major traffic <br />streets; 2) school bus stop locations; and 3) accident history. In addition, we will be <br />presenting a plan for signage which includes speed limit signs and pedestrian crosswalks. <br />Staff is still considering whether placement of "watch for children" signs should be <br />incorporated into the plan. Staff still feels placement of stop signs should be avoided or <br />at least placed very sparingly since there are 31 intersections within this neighborhood <br />which have essentially the same characteristics and conditions as the ones for which stop <br />signs are currently being requested. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />The desired goal is to develop a comprehensive signage plan.
