PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDING PERMITTED USES
IN R-1 RURAL RESIDENTIAL ZONING DISTRICTS
By: Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik

CASE #

Background:

As you know, the City Council has selected a site for a second fire station. The property
is zoned R-1 Rural Residential and public buildings or uses are not a permitted use in this
zone. On September 7, 1999 the Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider
a proposed Ordinance amending Chapter 9 (Zoning and Subdivision) of Ramsey City
Code to include 'Public Uses' as a permitted use in any zoning district. Due to concerns
raised at that public hearing, staff subsequently drafted an ordinance to amend Chapter 9
(Zoning and Subdivision) of Ramsey City Code to allow fire stations in all R-1 Rural
Residential Districts. The following items are enclosed for your information:

a) Planning Commission meeting minutes September 7, 1999
b) Proposed Ordinance

Recommendation:

City Staff recommends approval of the enclosed ordinance.

Commission Action:

Motion to recommend that City Council adopt an ordinance to amend Chapter 9 of the
City Code to allow fire stations in the R-1 Rural Residential Districts.

Review Checklist:
City Attorney

PC: 11/08/99
