PRELIMINARY PROJECT REQUEST FORM I. PROJECT NAME: Alexandra House, Inc. Residential Program Services II. PROJECT ACTIVITY A. Briefly describe the project. Alexandra House, Inc. is a non profit, tax exempt, domestic violence service provider for women and families in Anoka County and surrounding communities. We are located in Blaine. Services are free and include support, advocacy, intervention, professional training and community education provided by staff, interns and volunteers. In addition to a 24 hour emergency shelter, Alexandra House has offices in the Anoka County Human Services building, the Anoka County Courthouse and at Unity and Mercy Hospitals. 78 City of Ramsey women and families have received 311 Alexandra House services from January through November of 1997. We project that 100 women and families will request or access Alexandra House services for the 1998 calendar year. City of Ramsey women and families benefit from our services in several ways. Immediate safety and support are provided at our shelter facility. City of Anoka residents will receive assistance with filing for Orders for protection, accompaniment to court, intervention services, hospital advocacy services as well as increased community education and training. In addition Alexandra House, Inc. will provide information, referral and access to a full range of community resources. Over 90% of the women and families who request our services are at or below the poverty level. 10% of these are "working poor" and as such, they do not qualify for financial assistance. It necessitates CDBG funding to pay for the cost of their stay in our shelter facility. III. PROJECTION DURATION CDBG funding will support the calendar year, 1998. Residential Service Programs are ongoing and do not terminate. If the Project is more than one year, detail the project activities by year. This project's activities are continued from year to year with quality improvements made in the program services. Descriptions of the services are found above. Briefly describe the community problems that the activities address. Alexandra House is committed to a belief that physical and/or emotional abuse regardless of age, gender, race or other factors is a commu..nity, problem. Community involvement is critical to the provision of services for and the eradication of domestic violence. As long as there is a need, Alexandra House, Inc. will continue to be a community leader in providing quality and effective domestic violence services for women and families. VI.
