crossing so there are two avenues to the north. This meeting should be set up after the first of the
year and after there has been conversation with Art Raudio and Rick Foster.

Case #3:

Anoka County Reports Traffic Signal Warrants Have Been Met for C.R.
#116 and Dysprosium

City Engineer Jankowski reported that the Anoka County Highway Department has sent the
results of a signal warrant study done on November 7, 1997, at the C.R. #116/Dysprosium-
Thurston intersection. The study indicates that the intersection is warranted for the installation of
traffic signals having met two of the ten applicable warrants. This intersection will be considered
along with 21 other County loc;ztions. He thought it likely that four or five of the warranted
intersections will be selected for signalization in 1998. It is most likely that intersections having
a history of accidents correctable by signalization will be selected. Although there have been
five accidents at this intersection in 1997, none have been categorized by the County as being
correctable by signalization. He suggested that the Council may want to argue that point.
asked the Police Chief to pull accident reports. We have 16 reported
intersection so he suggested that staff send a letter calling attention to the amount of accidents at
the intersection and asking them to reconsider installing a signal there in 1998.
that a decision is expected in February. The City's share of the estimated $150,000 installation
cost would be $56,000. Also, the local municipality is responsible for the maintenance costs.
Since this is on the border with the City of Anoka, some further discussion will need to take
place on this issue.

The Committee was in agreement that a letter should be sent relating to the signalization of the
intersection of #116 and Dysj..rosium-Thurston and that conversation should be held with Anoka
with regard to their being responsible also for maintenance costs.

ADJOURNMENT

Consensus was to adjourn the meeting.

The regular meeting of the Road and Bridge Committee adjourned at 7:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

/ Jo T~ieling . ,~
k.._~ep'uty City Clerk ' ~'

accidents at that
tnt of acc: tel ts at
,8.
