I I City of RAMSEY Public Works Department Activity Report for January '!998 Snow Removal There was obviously much attention to snow removal in January, including weekends. Overall it's my feeling that the removal process went pretty well. When enough snow has accumulated, the Streets and Parks/Utilities dept. act as one making the removal process the top priority. We did experience numerous major repairs/breakdowns: Trucks 615/621 both had transmission failures (outside repairs) Truck 617 had a wing cable break and wing pin replaced (repaired in-house) Grader 603 required hydraulics adjustment (outside repair) Truck 610 broke the 2 speed option (outside repair) Replaced cutting blades on all plowing equipment (replaced in-house) Minor issues: Truck 630 had wiper blades replaced Repaired broom indicator on sweeper Truck 602 had brake indicator repaired Maintenance issues "To Do" list: Truck 626 needs hydraulic kit Mower 610 needs misc. repairs There were 34 recorded complaints during the month of January, the breakdown is as follows: Type of Complaint Quantity Percent of Total Quality of Work 11 31 Mailbox Damage 8 23 Cul-de-sac Issues 8 23 Grass Damage - 7 20 Misc. I 3 All recorded complaints were verified and a follow-up call was made (if a telephone number was available) Comments on specific issues: Quality of work: Most calls were for lack of plowing, too far from mailboxes, too much snow in yards/driveways. Again each call was verified and corrected if possible. Mailbox damage: Of the 8 calls, the city of Ramsey will replace 4 of the boxes in the spring. Drivers of the routes were contacted with the details in each case. Cul-de-sac issues: Some very emotional calls about snow in yards. In one case we experimented by trying to completely plow a cul-de-sac with the loader. Overall attempt went very well. We will be trying one more option next snow. .3
