AUTHORIZATION TO DONATE USED MACINTOSH COMPUTER EQUIPMENT TO
ANOKA HENNEPIN ISD #11
By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer

Background:

The City of Ramsey currently has 14 functional Mac computers, 2 Mac laserwriter printers,
miscellaneous Mac parts and other peripherals related to the Mae computers that have already
been declared surplus property. It had been anticipated that this equipment could be sold through
a sealed bid process at the spring events.

Recently, Mayor Garnet has had conversations with Mr. Bill Burke of the Anoka Hennepin ISD
#11 regarding the technology centers throughout the district and how any or all of the surplus
computer equipment might be used in the district. I met with Mr. Burke on Friday, March 6,
1998, to discuss the possibility of donating the used equipment to the school district. After Mr.
Burke had an opportunity to review the equipment he indicated that the district would be very
interested in all components, including thos..e.that are not currently functional.

The district is also the recipient of a technology grant that requires at least $10,000 matching
community funds to fulfill the grant requirements. It has been estimated, using market costs for
rehabilitated Mac computer equipment, that the value of the equipment to be donated,
[computers, printers, parts, sol, are, and miscellaneous peripherals] is in excess of the matching
requirement and should meet the requirements of the grant.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends that of the Mac' related computer equipment, sof~ware and peripherals be
donated to the technology department of the Anoka Hennepin ISD #11.

Council Action:

Motion 't° authorize the donation of the Mac related computer equipment, software and
peripherals to the Anoka Hennepin ISD #11 and direct the Finance Officer to ensure that all
equipment, parts, peripherals and software are transferred to the district and removed from the
City of Ramsey's fixed asset listing.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Finance Officer

CC: 03/I 0/98
