CASE # q

AUTHORIZATION TO REQUEST PROPOSALS FROM ARCHITECTS
FOR THE DESIGN OF SECOND FIRE STATION
By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief
:
Background:

As you are aware, the plans for an expansion into a second fire station facility are under way. A
draft floor plan has been drawn, reviewed and revised. Part of the revision includes an area that
would be suitable for public use (i.e. voting). The last revision was reviewed by the Fire Board
at its meeting on March 26. The information submitted to the Fire Board is included with this
case,

The site of choice is the northeast comer of Armstrong Boulevard and 161st Avenue. Much care
was taken to assure maximum safety of both the firefighters and the public in the response to the
station location by flrefighters in their personal vehicles along with the response of emergency
vehicles from the station to the incident address.

The next step in the process is to request proposals from architects for the design of the station.
A list of firms has been gathered using resources from the Anoka County Fire Protection Council
and Metro Fire Chiefs Organization, along with other fire agencies who have built fire stations in
the recent past. The request will be sent to. the following architects - SEH Architecture,
Symmesd Maipi & McKee Associates/Winsor Faricy, Tronssen Wright Architects P.A., and
Mjomd Architecture.

Council Action:

Motion to authorize Request for Proposals for the design of the second Ramsey fire station.

Reviewed by:

Fire Chief
City Administrator
Acting Finance Officer

CC: 04/14/98

jm t/FireSt a. doc
