City of RAMSEY Public Works
Activity Report for April 1998

the change
Overview
April brought of season to the Public Works'Uept. considerably sooner than in a
Road
normal year. restrictions went on and came off earlier than usual. Unusual dry weather
brought some issues with water supply that will be covered later in the report, Staff did find time to
concentrate the and fence at the PW site. Also the dock in the
on
landscaping
project
loading
metal building was removed and the hole filled with concrete getting ready for a facelift on the
inside while making the building more user friendly.

Streets Update
Sign work and patching is making up the majority of the streets activity. The grading of our
remaining unpaved streets has been stopped until some rain has fallen.

Parks/Utilities Update
Parks-
May will find a great deal of activity in striping of fields along with other routine maintenance in
preparation of the youth athletic event schedule. Mowing has to date been held off for lack of
precipitation on turf. Irrigation at Central Park was not started as early as desired due to the repair
and upgrade of the well and irrigation system. Also at Central some damage from fertilizer
application in the fall is still evident with the hope some attention will correct the situation in the
near future.

Utilities-
April found Ramsey with 1 night of extremely Iow to no water pressure. This occurred while the
new SCADA system was being brought on line. The system is now close to being complete. The
inconvenience was minimized by prompt action from supervisor Mark Boos and his staff. Although
PW staff is not technically "on call" after regular work hours, efforts are made to assure
communications can be received if an emergency situations arise. Current procedures will be
revised in the near future for dealing with such issues in conjunction with the SCADA system
should similar situations happen again.

PW continues to receive calls dealing with water quality from concerned citizens. The utilities
group is tracking the location of the calls for possible action if required.

Cemetery Projects-
Fences repair quotes have been rec'd and PO's issued. Trott Brook maintenance will be included
with the High School maintenance scheduled for May 16. Foster will require a greater level of
effort for the initial "cleaning", with on-going regular maintenance being scheduled as required.

Equipment Issues

What broke:
-Sweeper needs new alternator
-Clutch fan in #621 truck need repair
-Windshield wipers needed on #620
4/602 has air leak that needs repair

.5
