JUNE 9, 1998

TO: CITY OF RAMSEY

FROM;.

DICK & SHARON JENSEN
15825 JUNIPER RIDGE DRIVE
RAMSEY, MN 55303

PHONE: 427-4909

PUBLIC HEARING: RUM RIVER - NO WAKE ZONE(S)

We are unable to attend tonight's meeting; however, we wanted
to voice our concerns regarding the future of the Rum River.

We have lived on the river for ten years and have seen the
traffic on the river increase dramatically during that time.
We have even commented that some days the river looks like a
"Sunday afternoon on Lake Minnetonka". Fortunately, when the
river is low, the traffic is minimal. But when the river is
high you will see jet skis and large, fast motor boats using
the river. We have also noticed the increase of snowmobiles
on the river in the winter months and question where they
might we accessing the river and how that access might affect
some shorelines. We can only assume that the deterioration
and errosion we see along the river has not only come from
the river itself as mother nature deems necessary, but also
from the increased traffic.

When you cruise the river (and we do have a pontoon as many
people along the river do) you can see that certain areas of
shoreline are severely erroded. We would hope that these
areas would at least be acknowledged as threatened shorelines
and immediate methods taken to counteract the deterioration
that is taking place. We see the river as a primary asset
to our community and would hate to see it used and abused by
people who treat it as a recreational haven rather than the
scenic haven it really is. We'd like to see it stay the way
it is for as long as possible. This will only happen if we
address the way people are using the river.

We are in favor of no wake zones and the more the better!

Dick Jensen
