· Page 2 June 2, 1998 One of the more recent and serious occurrences that we experienced was on Saturday, May 30, t998. This situation r~lted in both of our dogs being circled and attacked by a neighbor's Rottwieier. This also resulted in one of our dogs going to the veterinary clinic because of dog b~te wounds that were inflicted. While it is unfortunate that our dogs were attacked, we are grateful that it was not a child or an adult that was attacked. This time the dty Police were celled, and a warning was given to the dog We recognize, and greatly appredate that the City o~ Ramsey has published several times, the "Ramsey Leash Ordinance" in the dry new~etter the "Ramsey Resident". We thank you for this. In addition, we fee~ that this is a great way of getting the word out to the residents. However, unfortunately, the word is not out to all of the residents, or the residents just do not cere because they know that the ordinance is very loosely enforced. Again, we express our concern on this issue, especially dudng these warmer months when a greater volume of residents are outside. The children are playing in the neighborhood, the adults are out for walks, the joggers training for their marathons, the bikers out biking, the responsible dog ovmem walking their dogs, and the list goes on... Moreover, as Ramsey is rapidly growing we do not want to hinder the responsible pet owr~ers by having more stringent rules and regulations placed on them. We do not feel this is the answer, or what is really needed. We do think that the present leash ordinance is a good ordinance. In addition, in the past the loose enforcement of this ordinance may have worked. However, much of the City of Ramsey is no longer country. And, for this reason and also because we see a big problem being repeated dally. It is our recommendation that this City Leash Ordinance be made more visible to the residents, along with greater enforcement to help redirect the violators of this ordinance.
