ADOPT UPDATED ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background: ';

The City Council has authorized a number of organizational changes during the past year.
The organization chart has been revised to reflect those changes. A copy of the revised
chart and a copy of the outdated chart are attached for comparison.

Explanation of Changes:

In 1997 and 1998, the City Council approved the creation of several new positions.
These included:

1. Public Works Director/Fire Chief, a department head position that was filled
by Dean Kapler in January 1998.

2. Community Development Assistant, an entry level planning position that was
filled by Scan Walther in January 1998.

3. Public Safety Aide, a half-time position that works primarily in the Police
Department and was filled by Laurie Swadner in March 1998.

4. An additional patrol officer position in the Police Department that was filled
by Nick Stolp in January 1998.

5. Community Development Director, a department head position that will be
filled by September 1998.

In addition, the City Council eliminated the Economic Development Coordinator position
that was left vacant in September 1997. This was a non-supervisory position whose
duties have been assumed by the Community Development Assistant and an Economic
Development consultant.

Finally, with the creation of the Public Works Director and Community Development
Director positions, the City Engineer will no longer be responsible for supervising the
Public Works and Community Development departments. The City engineer position is
being transferred to Public Works. The position will report to the Public Works Director
and concentrate on engineering responsibilities. (Although the position changes place on
the organization chart, the City Engineer will continue to be located physically at City
Hall).
