I I I I I I I I I I ~._CASE #: _~ RECOMMEND APPOINTMENT OF LINDA MAYER AS SENIOR ACCOUNTANT By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager Lackground: Diana Lund's recent appointment to Finance Officer le~t the position of Senior Accountant vacant. On June 23, Council authorized staff to begin the process of filling the vacancy. The position was posted intemally from June 24 through July 8. One application was received from Linda Mayer, a Finance Department employee since January 1993. Her title has been Accounting Clerk but she has performed the Senior Accountant duties during two periods when the department was without a Senior Accountant, including the past three and one-half months. The current Finance Officer has worked beside Ms. Mayer for the past three years and is very familiar with her work. Ms. Mayer was interviewed by the Administrative Services Manager, the Finance Officer and the Deputy City Clerk on July 9, 1998. On the basis of her application, interview and demonstrated ability to fulfill the duties of the position, staff recommends that Linda Mayer be appointed Senior Accountant, effective July 15, 1998 at an annual salary of $30,986, which is the minimum of the salary range for the position. If Ms. Mayer assumes the Senior Accountant position, the Account Clerk position will be vacant and the process for filling it should begin. Committee Action: Recommend that City Council approve the appointment of Linda Mayer as Senior Accountant, effective July 15, 1998 at an annual salary of $30,986. with a six-month probationary period.
