CONSIDER ORDINANCES TO CHANGE STREET NAMES <br />IN APPLE RIDGE AND REGENCY POND 3RD ADDITION <br />By: Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />In June of this year, the developer of Apple Ridge (U.S. Home Corporation) approached Council <br />with a request to change the street name of Junkite Court N.W. in Apple Ridge. The developer <br />indicated that the name "Junkite" was presenting some marketing and image problems for the <br />development of homes on that cul-de-sac. Council directed City Staff to review the request, <br />make a decision and schedule any formal action necessary. <br /> <br />With respect to Junkite Court on the north side of 157th Lane in Apple Ridge, Staff has <br />determined that a street name change can be accommodated to facilitate the marketability of the <br />lots on that block. However, Staff has concerns about setting precedence and deviating from the <br />established grid pattern. Therefore, it is our recommendation that because "Junkite Court" is so <br />close in proximity to the Krypton grid line, that Junkite Court be renamed Krypton Court. There <br />are no residents on the subject street at this time that would be impacted by the street name <br />change. <br /> <br />The plat of Regency Pond 3rd Addition was recorded at the County approximately 2 weeks ago. <br />One of the streets in the plat, 149th Lane, was erroneously identified as such. The street number <br />should have been 148th Lane. <br /> <br />Observations: <br /> <br />Changing a street name requires adoption of an ordinance by City Council. Neither of the above <br />streets are developed with homes yet and no citizens will be impacted by the name changes.
