I
I
I
I

CASE #
AUTHORIZE DESIGN PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
FOR WATERMAIN LOOPING (IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #98-22)
By: Steven J. Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Attached to the case are two watermain looping projects which have been scheduled for 1998 in
the current CIP. One project involves approximately 350 feet of twelve-inch watermain and a
crossing of C.S.A.H. #5, which would complete a major twelve-inck main looping. This project
would provide a second feed to the elementary school and to the Fox Knoll and Alpine Addition
subdivisions. A second looping involves placing 2,000 feet of watermain along the railroad
tracks to provide a second feed to the AEC Industrial Park.

It is proposed to combine both these loopings into a single project, since they will be essentially
the same type of work, the installation of watermain. The City will be obtaining title to the
necessary land on September 15, 1998. It is proposed to initiate design at this time so the project
can be completed before the end of this construction season.

Financing:

Both of these projects are included in the 1998 CIP, and funding will come from the water utility
fund. The total project cost is estimated to be $165,000.

Recommendations:

Direct City Engineer to prepare plans and specification for Improvement Project #98-22, 1998
Watermain loopings.

Action:

Motion to direct City Engineer to prepare plans and specifications for Improvement Project #98-
22.

Reviewed by:
City Engineer
City Administrator
Director of Public Works
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

CC: 08/25/98
