I

I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

RECOMMEND AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE JOAN SMITH AS
FINANCE CLERK

By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background:

The Finance Department has been short-staffed for the past twelve weeks while the half-time
clerical person has been on parenting leave. Last week that person submitted her resignation.

At that time, staff was processing applications for the Accounting Clerk position. One applicant
who preferred part-time work was invited to interview for the Finance Clerk opening. She had
experience in the major responsibilities of the Finance Clerk, which include conducting special
assessment searches, processing accounts receivable, and maintaining Finance records.

Staff is recommending that Joan Smith be hired as the half-time Finance Clerk, effective
immediately. The position is in the AFSCME bargaining unit and the annualized salary range is
$23,370 to $28,500.

Committee Action:

Recommend that City Council authorize hiring Joan Smith as half-time Finance Clerk, effective
immediately, at an annualized salary of $23,370 ($11.24 per hour), contingent on successful
completion of checks for references, criminal history and driving record, and a physical
examination.

Reviewed By:

City Administrator
Administrative Services Manager
Finance Ollticer
Senior Accountant

PC 9/22/98
