RECOMMEND PROMOTION OF GRANT RIEMER <br />TO STREETS SUPERVISOR POSITION <br />Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager <br />Dean Kapler, Director of Public Works <br /> <br />Background: <br />City Council recently authorized staff to proceed with activities to replace Merle <br />Mevissen, Public Works Streets Supervisor, who is retiring after 25 years of City service. <br /> <br />The position was posted intemally and two applications were received. Both applicants <br />were interviewed on Tuesday, October 6. The interview panel consisted of the Public <br />Works Director, the Administrative Services Manager and Anoka Streets Supervisor Jim <br />Lewis. Both applicants were asked the same questions and each interviewer took notes <br />and rated responses independently. At the conclusion of the process, the panel's <br />recommendation was that Grant Riemer be appointed to the position. <br /> <br />Mr. Riemer has been employed by the Public Works Department for almost ten years. As <br />an employee of the Parks/Utilities Division, he has significant experience in both areas of <br />responsibility. He is currently pursuing a certificate in Public Works Administration, <br />with expected completion scheduled for 1999. <br /> <br />The Streets Supervisor reports to the Public Works Director. The position supervises <br />three Public Works Maintenance Workers assigned to perform street maintenance <br />activities, snow related activities, storm sewer maintenance activities, motorized <br />equipment maintenance and repair, and general maintenance and repair activities. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that Grant Riemer be appointed Public Works Streets Supervisor, <br />effective October 12, 1998, at an annualized salary of $44,034.
