FC CASE

CONSIDER ACCEPTING SNOWMOBILE ENFORCEMENT GRANT
FROM THE DNR
By: Police Sergeant Bob Kuhn

Background:

The legislature has authorized, through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR),
grants for snowmobile enforcement. The only stipulation is that these funds be used
solely for snowmobile enforcement, over and above the current levels of enforcement.
The Police Department participated in the 1997-98 Snowmobile Safety Enforcement
Grant and received $1,000 which was used for enforcement and equipment. Once again
we requested to participate in the program for the 1998-99 snowmobile season and our
request was accepted.

Recommendation:

The Police Department is recommending that the City accept the terms and the $1,000
grant from the DNR for the 1998-99 snowmobile season and enter into the agreement
with the State of Minnesota. Such agreement is included with the case for Council
review.

Council Action:

Motion to accept the terms and the $1,000 grant from the DNR for the 1998-99
snowmobile season and to authorize staff to enter into the agreement with the DNR for

same.

Reviewed by:

Police Sergeant
Police Chief
City Administrator
Finance Officer

FC: 10/13/98

jo/Snowmob.doc
