Steve Jankowski, City Engineer
October 5, 1998
Page 2

Task 2 - Water Use Trends and Projections

A. Land Use and Population Projections

In providing municipal utility services, it is necessary to have a planning horizon which
is long enough to enable systematic implementation of improvements, to maintain
service capability equal to or greater than demand and to efficiently use capital and
physical facilities.

A 20-year planning period will be used for the water study.

Based on this planning period, the City's land use and service area, and projections for
residential, commercial and industrial growth will be reviewed.

B.' Water Demand Projections

The current and historical water demands for residential, commercial and industrial users
will be reviewed. A water audit inventory will be performed. The total water pumped
from the wells will be eompaJed to the water sales to determine water losses within the
distribution system. A review of the water meter testing and replacement progress will
be performed. Future water demands will be estimated based on past water use factors
and projected future population and land use planning.

Task 3 - Water Quality Trends and Population

Summary of Water Quality Data
A summary of the existing water quality data will be prepared. The City will provide
current quality data for all of the welts.

B. Safe Drinking Water Act Impact Analysis

The water quality data will be evaluated for compliance with the National Primary and
Secondary Drinking Water Standards, proposed Federal Maximum Contaminant Levels
0VICLs) for regulated contaminants, and quality criteria that are not yet officially
proposed, but which are being discussed in the regulatory and scientific communities.

C. Water Quality Parameters

Water quality parameters will be established based on drinking water regulations. These
parameters will be utilized for evaluation of water system adequacy.

Task 4 - Water SupplY Evaluation

A. Evaluation of Existing Water Supply

Based on water quantity and quality parameters, the existing wells will be evaluated for
their ability to meet future needs. Improvements needed to meet these criteria will be
identified.

Q%RAMSEYUANKOWSK.LTI

I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
i
I
I
!
!
I
I
!
I
i
