p~CASE #i~

CONSIDER REAP?OINTMENTS TO PLANNING COMMISSION
By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background:

In 1997, the City Council adopted an ordinance making the terms of commission appointments
four years long and limiting commissioners to two four-year terms plus any partial term they are
appointed to complete in someone else's absence. The City Council directed the Administrative
Services Manager to meet with commissions to develop a plan for phasing in the longer terms
and the term limits in a way that did not leave any commission short of experienced members.

The terms of three Planning Commissioners (Bawden, Deemer and LaDue) expire December 31,
1998. Bawden is not seeking reappointment. Deemer and LaDue are requesting reappointment
to three and two-year terms, respectively, per the plan developed by the Administrative Services
Manager and the Planning Commissioner in February 1998. Copies of their reappointment
questionnaires are attached to this case.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend that City Council approve or deny reappointment Ben Deemer to the
Planning Commission for a three-year term to expire 12/31/01.

Motion to recommend that City Council approve or deny reappointment of Charles LaDue to the
Planning Commission for a two-year term to expire 12/31/9~.~)0

Reviewed By:

Copies also distributed to:

City Administrator
Administrative Services Manager
Community Development Director

PC 11/24/98
