CITY OF RAMSEY <br />COMP0 TER/INTERNET/E-MAIL USAGE <br /> <br />Policy Statement: <br />k is the policy of the City of Ramscy to support open communications and exchange of <br />information and the opportunity for coUaborative government-related work. ]'he City of <br />Ramsey also provides it employees Internet access to local, national, and international <br />resources to promote partnership, community involvement, and the exchange of <br />information and ideas among, eitizens~ government agencies, community groups, and <br />businesses. The City of Ramsey encourages the use of electro.hie communications by its <br />departmems and employees. Although access to information and information technology <br />is essential to the mission of government agencies and their users, use of lnternet services <br />is a revocable priv~ege. Conformance with acceptable usc, as expressed in this pplicy <br />statement, is required, <br /> <br />Background: <br />The Intcrnet is comprised ofthousands of interconnected networks which provide digital <br />pathways to millions of host computers. Because these networks subscribe to a common <br />set of standards and protocols, users have worldwfd¢ ace.s to Internet hosts and I~heir <br />associated applications and databases. Applications (such as the World Wide Web <br />(WWW'), file transfer protocol (FTP), and electronic mail) permit users to gather <br />information and data from a multitude of sources and to communicate with their <br />couture-parts in global oorrmatmications of interest. <br /> <br />Capabilities such as those described above can provide enormous benefits to the City of <br />Raras~, which depends upon a wide variety ofteclmical professional skills to carry out i~s <br />activities. <br /> <br />Scope: <br />This polity governs the condu~ of'alt City employees, including el~t officials, union, <br />non-union, supervisory, non-supervisory, managerial, full.time, part-time and temporary <br />employees, and members of'City boards and commissiorfs. <br /> <br />Definitions: <br />l,memek The lnternet, a global information infrasmmum, is a network ofn~tworks used <br />by educators, businesses, the government, the military., and organization.
