CASE # <br />PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION; <br /> CASE OF MISSISSIPPI NATIONAL RIVER AND RECREATION AREA <br /> By Scan Walther, Community Development Assistant <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On December 10, 1996, the City Council directed Staff to apply for funding assistance in <br />the amount of $25,000 from the National Park Service (NPS) to create a Mississippi <br />River Corridor Plan and update our City Code to meet or exceed the State requirements <br />for the Critical River Area and Scenic River Area ordinances. This application was <br />submitted in January to the Metropolitan Council, which is administering the Mississippi <br />National River and Recreation Area (MNRRA) program for the NPS. <br /> <br />A grant was approved in March for $20,000 by the NPS. Acceptance of this grant in <br />April 1997, required the City to provide a match of $20,000 consisting of in-kind services <br />and/or cash. A copy of the six month progress report to the Metropolitan Council is <br />enclosed. Within the progress report is the current work plan that was prepared by <br />Hoisington Koegler Group Inc. 0tKGI). <br /> <br />City of Ramsey is holding a public input meeting devoted to MNRRA issues on April 30 <br />to guide us as we begin the corridor plan in conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan. <br />The meeting will be facilitated by HI(G1 and will include a short presentation by <br />representatives of the DNR, NPS and Metropolitan Council. Also, there will be ample <br />time gathering citizen input on the MNRRA program's policy recommedations. <br /> <br />Notification: <br /> <br />A short article and announcement about the meeting is in the April Ramsey Resident. I <br />also included a survey that residents could complete and mail to City Hall to help the City <br />and HKGI prepare for the meeting, and to use as a supplement to input gathered at the <br />meeting.
