April 21, 1998

Sylvia Frolik
Zoning Administrator
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

Sylvia,

I would like to ask for a 6-month extension of my conditional use permit (Resolution 97-05-130)
to build a pole barn at Hansen Tree Farm. The main reason for our delay is the major damage
caused by last summer's windstorm. We lost about 200 large trees, and 5,000 Christmas trees
were blown over and had to be straightened up. We are only now completing cleanup and so
construction will not take place until this summer. We have had the trees sawn into lumber,
some of which will be used in the new building.

Adding to the delay is that our log-truss porch is more difficult to engineer and build than
typical 4-square lumber construction. Glyn Huff is reviewing our plans now, but we cannot cut
the logs and build the trusses until he is sure they will meet commercial building specifications.
Finding log building standards and specifications was a major research project in itself.

I appreciate your understanding of these circumstances and hope an extension is possible. I
should also mention that we have already moved about a dozen 6-foot white spruce trees to
help screen the future building.

David Hansen
