The following is a summary of various communities' exterior design criteria:

Burnsville; Special minimum requirements and performance standards are required in
Bumsville for the commercial and industrial zoning districts. Below are selected highlights of
each district's requirements.

B-1 & B-3:
B-2:

I:

- no height limit, C.U.P. required if exceeds 25 feet in B-l, 35 feet in B~3.

- roofs shall be pitched, mansard, or other roof types commonly found in
the adjacent residential area. '

- all buildings shall be designed to accomplish the goals and objectives of
the comprehensive plan.
- building materials selected shall be attractive in appearance, durable, and of a
quality which is both compatible with adjacent structures and consistent with
the City's standards for the district in which it is located.
- major exted°r surfaces shall be face brick, stone, glass, stucco, architecturally
treated concrete, cast in place or precast panels, decorative block, or approved
equivalent, as determined by the City.
- wood and metal may be used as accent materials. Under no circumstances shall
sheet or corrugated aluminum, asbestos, iron, plain or painted concrete block be
deemed acceptable as major exterior wall materials on buildings within the City.

Coon Rapids: Highway l0 in Coon Rapids is exclusively freeway. Therefore, Coon Rapids
Boulevard is more comparable to Highway 10 in Ramsey today. Land uses along Coon Rapids
Boulevard are primarily Highway Commercial (HC) and General Commercial (GC) Districts.
Both districts require that the design of buildings and exterior building materials shall be
approved by the Planning Commission, that buildings shall be designed to be compatible with
surrounding land uses, and that the Planning Commission may also approve other materials that
the Commission determines are compatible with permitted materials. The code for the HC
district requires "all exterior wall surfaces shall be of architecturally treated metal, brick,
decorative masonry block, glass, stone, or a combination of these materials." For the GC district
the code requires "the front building exterior wall surface wall surfaces abutting a public street,
wall surfaces facing other buildings within the development and wall surfaces abutting districts
other than GC or Industrial shall be of architecturally treated metal, brick, decorative masonry
block, glass, stone, or a combination of these materials."

Eagan: Architectural standards in Eagan require "industrial buildings to have a vertical exposed
exterior finish of seventy-five percent (75%) non-combustible, non-degradable, and
maintenance-free construction materials (such as face brick, natural stone, specially designed
precast concrete units of the surfaces have been integrally treated with an applied decorative
material or texture and smooth concrete block if scored at least twice or decorative concrete
block but excluding such construction materials as sheet or corrugated aluminum, iron, plain or
painted plain concrete block or similar). Any decorative concrete block shall be colored by
means of a pigment impregnated throughout the entire block. Any metal surface shall be coated
or anodized with a non-reflective, glare-free finish."
