CASE # 3

PRESENTATION OF CITY COMPREHENSIVE STORM WATER PLAN
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

One area of increasing concem as development within the City takes place is providing for
adequate storm drainage. The City has prepared two planning documents which address storm
water planning. The first document was prepared for the City in 1980 by Consulting Engineers
Diversified, Inc. (CED). This document identified the major basins and sub-basins in the
southern two-thirds of the City. This study did not include the area that drains to the Trott Brook
basin. A second study was prepared in February 1997 by SEH, Inc. which covered the
southeastern quadrant of the city. This study provided a more detailed analysis of the drainage in
this segment of the city, but utilized the same sub-basin and drainage strategies as the original
CED study. Copies of the CED report have been reproduced and distributed to Council. A copy
of the SEH study is attached under separate cover.

Although the original engineering firm of CED is no longer in existence, the engineer who
prepared the report is Mr. Peter Raatikka, currently the vice-president of Hakanson-Anderson
Associates, Inc. Mr. Raatikka has agreed to be present at the meeting to present an overview of
the report. I will be available to present the SEH report.

Committee Action:

Based on discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
City Engineer
Director of Public Works

R&B: 6/16/98

3/
