CASE # <br /> <br />CONSIDER SEWER AND WATER EXTENSION TO BURGER KING <br /> By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Burger King has petitioned the City for inclusion into the MUSA, and if approved would require <br />sewer and water extension for services at their site, which is located on the west side of County <br />Road #56 between the railroad tracks and T.H. 10. <br /> <br />There are a number of alternatives for extending municipal service to this site and I am <br />recommending consideration of the route illustrated on the attachment to this case. This <br />extension would consist of installing approximately 1000 feet of twenty-seven inch sanitary <br />sewer down 143rd Avenue, which would be jacked across CR #56. A smaller ten inch sewer <br />would be extended southward and .jacked across the raikoad track to provide gravity sewer <br />service to the site. The watermain would follow the same route, with an eight inch main being <br />extended down 143rd Avenue and a twelve inch main south along the west side of CR #56 to the <br />site. This would disturb all of the existing 143rd Avenue pavement and it would be reasonable to <br />restore the roadway with the addition &concrete curb and gutter and storm water pipe, which the <br />street currently lacks. The details of the extension cost are attached, but can be summarized into <br />three primary areas as follows: <br /> <br />Sanitary Sewer Extension <br />Watermain Extension <br />Improvement to 143rd Avenue <br /> Total <br /> <br />Total Pr~ect Costs <br />$236,000 <br />$146,520 <br />$ 59.020 <br />$441,540 <br /> <br />The above route is not the least expensive alternative, however, I have recommended it for the <br />following reasons <br /> <br />l) <br /> <br />It will provide trunk sanitary sewer to the undeveloped area between CR #56 and CR #83. <br />This area has great potential for development, particularly with the construction of CR <br />#116 providing access. Sewer and water tnmk charges from this area have the potential <br />for generating as much as $3.28 million. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />This project will provide an opportunity for the upgrading of 143rd Avenue, with curb <br />and gutter and storm sewer. These improvements are more consistent with the standards <br />of the City's business park areas. <br /> <br />3) This alignment will require no easements and can be pursued in a timely manner. <br /> <br /> <br />
