Commissioner LaMere asked how next year's money would be used.

Mr. Boos answered that 35 acres of land are planned for purchase. The community is interested
in building tennis courts, but this may have to wait until after the land acquisition. As the land
purchase is a priority, the Commission may need to emphasize this.

Vice Chairperson Johns agreed with this.

Commissioner Rolfe asked for a list of available money, as well as a list of park improvement
needs by Recreation District.

Mr. Boos stated this information would be available by the July meeting.

Mr. Boos went on to say that Alpine Park should be a priority as well, and should be separate
fi.om the regular CII~ list. This park needs signs, benches, and trees. He added that trees are a
relatively small investment. He suggested the Commission ask City Council to complete Alpine
Park this year.

Commissioner Rotfe asked if the Little League program has asked for Lawful Gambling funds.

Mr. Boos answered that no one entity may continue to regularly receive funding. He stated that
Commissioner Droegemueller believes that the baseball program has money and would set up a
matching gif~ fund to plant trees in Alpine Park. He then said the Lawful Gambling fund is also an
available source of money for the Park and Recreation Commission.

Mr. Boos then continued discussing the Alpine Park issues for the year 2000, such as fencing.

Mr. Kapler asked if lighting is included in this proposal.

Mr. Boos replied that no, it is not.

Commissioner LaMere asked if trail links to Alpine Park are alongside or part of the roads.

Mr. Boos stated that most of the trails would be separate from the roads. Additional trail links
will need to be requested.

Commissioner LaMere stated that it is important too look at these links. Children will be using
them so as to avoid traffic.

Mr. Boos agreed, adding that the trail needs should be put in writing as a proactive,
comprehensive plan without specifying a funding source. Community parks may try and compete
for these dollars.

Park and Recreation Commission/June 11, 1998
Page 8 of I1
