09/04 '98 12:17 ID:AT&T GS! FAX:612-638-8403 PAGE

I ~ Youth Athletic

The Ramsay Youth Athletic Association intends to grow along with the
City of Ramsay. To do this we need the help of the City' and the Park ard
Rec Board to provide suitable parks and facilities for the ex.ed grow~
of the sport programs within RYAA. In 1998 our programs in baseball,
football, soccer, and softball attracted over I400 participants. This
number represents an increase of over 7% from the 199'/' paflicipation
level of 1,315 children. One of the reasons for the increase is the 6%
increase in the general population of Ramsey. Other reasons include
baseball's alignment with the Anoka Area Baseball Association which
provides better competitive opportunities ar~cl a stronger organizational
foundation for the sport, .soccer's alignment with the Minnesota Youth
Soccer Association which provides similar benefits along with betfer
access to other area programs, and RYAA's commitment to more diverse
communication outlets such as the RYAA Newsletter and an RYAA Web
Site. Through these methods RYAA is seeking greater involvement from
the existing population base as well as attracting participation from the
new members of the community.

1998 the participation breakdown by sport looks like this:

Baseball Approximately 500 children representing 33 teams
playing on 11 fields. * Baseball shams fields with other cities that comprise the
- AABA. Total AABA parlicipatlon is about 1,020

Soccer Approximately 600 children representing 60 teams
playing on 5 fields. * Soccer has Summer and Fall seasons and has gone to
Saturday play this Fall because of the lack of lighting.

Football Approximately 165 children representing 12 tea~ns
playing on 0 fields. * Football plays on the outfields of ball diamonds because et'
the availabilily of lighting

· Softball Approximately 145 children representing 12 teams
playing on 11 fields. ' Softball plays on the same fields as baseball.

RYAA is aware that the City is working on providing more soccer and
football fields. This work is necessary to ensure that all children that Wish
to participate can continue to play sports in Ramsey and We wlt~h to {NiiAE
you. The following page sho~vs expected participation levels for the
coming years. ,~.
